And I don’t really understand the motivation for this challenge. I mean, sure, a challenge like this creates publicity, possibly leading some writers to move from other platforms over to Medium to give it a shot. But I don’t think Medium is lacking writers. There are more than enough of us here. And some among us aren’t any worse than the writers you might find anywhere else.

I think the bigger problem for Medium is that good writers who are already on the platform might just give up and move somewhere else. So I think Medium should focus more on making existing writers happy than in trying to bring new writers to the platform. And yeah, bonuses were an awesome step in that direction. Even much smaller bonuses would make plenty of us happy.
