Hey, Jane!

I don't think it's so much about the type of writing you do, but more about why you are a perfectionist. Let me explain.

I think, as with mental illnesses, perfectionism is only a problem when it causes issues.

For instance, I don't think there's anything wrong with dedicating your life to writing one as-perfect-as-possible novel or spending months writing a single poem where you carefully and painstakingly choose every word, **if that's what you truly want to do**.

But for some of us being a perfectionist is more like suffering from OCD. We don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of time on a piece. We want to move on and we want to be more prolific. And, yet, we really struggle with letting go of our work and instead compulsively re-read and re-edit our work even though it doesn't help us accomplish our actual goals (e.g., growing an audience on a blogging platform).

So, I agree with you. If you're a perfectionist by choice, then there should be definitely room for that. But if you're a perfectionist because of a compulsive personality and the fear of being judged, then it's not really helpful and, in my opinion, something that should be addressed.

PS: happy to see you pop up in my comments again. It's been a while :)
