Backstory

Sometimes I wonder whether a certain friend of mine wouldn’t have been better off without her child. I mean, she’s a single mom with a full-time job who also has to do some extra hours here and there to make ends meet. So, it can’t be easy for her.

But, of course, whether she has some regrets or not, if I’d ever asked her, the answer would be no. In our culture, it’s simply a taboo for a mother to admit she regrets having children. It’s supposed to be the ultimate meaning in a woman’s life and society still seems to glorify motherhood above everything else a woman can do.

Thus, I’ll never know. And it’s probably a pointless question anyway since babies really can’t be put back in…
