I don't have a book published myself, but I don't think it's a bad idea to publish something from it. If it's fiction, you could publish the first one or two chapters to help you findnew readers for your book. If it's nonfiction, you can do the same. And you can also publish core ideas from your nonfiction book to get new readers who might've been interested in your book.
