SILLY POETY

I’ve Got a Zoo In Me

A poem

Inside my nose
there lives a tiny slimy snail.
That’s why snot flows
and why it’s stuffy and I can’t exhale.

And in my head, there’s a woodpecker that won’t leave,
a bastard hammering against my skull,
excavating osseous dust that makes me sneeze.

And I’ve also got a family of beavers
that is gnawing on my joints and bones,
breaking them apart like cleavers,
giving me aches and moans and groans.

And in my lungs, there is a fish,
an ugly mucous scummy eel
that makes me cough up with a swish
half my morning meal.

Oh, I wish I only had the flu
and not this goddam zoo!
