Maybe regression to the mean isn’t the right term then… Not sure what a better term would be though for returning to a base level of pain, sickness, happiness, etc.

As to the book idea, I think I still need a much bigger audience for that. From all I’ve heard, these days you first need a decent audience you can sell a book to or publishers and agents just won’t be interested.
