Oh, I didn’t mean to ruin anything. But I really do love this platform. Not everything, of course, but most of it. I mean, the community here is awesome, I love the vision of enabling writers to earn money without resorting to annoying ads, I love how easy it is for anyone to publish something here, I love that you can find readers even if you’re clueless about SEO and social media marketing, etc.
So with that short statement I simply wanted to counterbalance my tendency to make fun of Medium (I sometimes worry that I’m just yet another voice spreading negativity…)
Again, there’s plenty to criticize. But even so, with all its flaws, Medium still beats setting up your own blog in a deserted corner of the Internet, where you’ll be relegated to page 50,000 of Google results and trying to find readers all on your own.
For instance, I doubt you or anyone else would have found my writing if I had published it all on my own blog no one has ever heard of. So, in a sense, even though I wish I could make a living here, but can't, I'm still really grateful for what this imperfect place makes possible :)
