Either way, I generally prefer non-zero-sum games, which is only possible among writers if the earnings ultimately originate from outside the pool of writers (e.g., from readers or sponsors).

What I like about Medium is that it’s precisely non-zero-sum as long as we writers can convince more readers to pay for a subscription.
