Thanks, Jane! I appreciate your feedback. But here's why I'll keep adding written explanations for now:

1. It gives people something to highlight and more things to comment on, which are all signals to the algorithm to recommend my comics to more readers. In other words, adding text makes my comics perform better on Medium.

2. Several people have told me that they enjoy the accompanying written text.
