Yep, although it's not that easy either. Stripe doesn't send money to every country. For instance, I am in Bolivia and I can't get Medium to send money over here. So it has to be sent to my home country, where I have to pay taxes and other fees. So of the $500 I might earn in a month, after taxes, fees, and currency conversion, maybe only a third makes it over to the low-income country where I currently find myself.

Sure, you can live in some countries with a third of $500, but it will be a humble life.
